Cannabis is a genus of flowering plants that includes three species; Sativa, Indica and Ruderalis. In this article we are going to focus on sativa and indica.
The physical traits of a sativa plant are tall with large thin leaves, while an indica plant is short and stalky with broad leaves.
The psychoactive properties of each species are a little more in depth. A sativa plant is known for its upbeat energetic highs, many strains will get your heart racing and some feel it can be too intense. Some people report a sativa high being like on ADD medication where you focus on whatever task is at hand. These strains are good for depression, migraines, pain relief and appetite boosting.
An indica plant is usually a more mellow high with some strains even giving a “couch lock” feeling. Basically the indica strains give more of a physical high rather than a cerebral high. Many strains in the indica species are good for sleep disorders, stress relief, anxiety etc.
Most all marijuana strains are a mix of the two species, whether its 30%/70%, 20%/80%, or even 50%/50%
