Cloning to Determine Sex

Sexing Cannabis

In order to determine the sex of a marijuana plant when you have grown it from seed you must clone the plant and induce flowering.  This will give away the sex of the plant, if it is male, the plant should be disposed of (unless you are breeding or need a male plant for seeds) with care not to burst any pollen sacks that you may not have seen yet.

Once you take your clones, root them as usual.  Once they are on their way to rooting you should cut the light to a 12 hour on 12 hour off schedule to induce the flowering stage.  It is important to know that the dark period needs to be a full 12 hours of uninterrupted light.

It could take up to 2 weeks for clones to show their sex.  Another good tip is to take at least 2 clones from the plant in question in case one of the clones dies.

If you use a box or other device to cover you plants from outside light, make sure to remove the box when all the lights are off to provide needed ventilation to the clones.
